We are incorporated!

We decided some time ago to incorporate as a non-profit mutual benefit corporation under the laws of the state of California. In the summer of the year 2000 we finally completed the incorporation and became a real INC!

We discussed the benefits of incorporation for some time before we decided it was the right path. What really made our minds up was the issue of personal liability -- who wants to be sued if some squid racks up his bike on one of our rides?

Any we did it. Now we can have a real bank account, give real donations to the community, etc. It's cool.

Here is an excerpt from our bylaws which discusses the purpose and focus of the Santa Cruz Vampires Motorcycle and Scooter Club, Inc.:

The purpose of this corporation is to engage in any lawful act or activity for which a corporation may be organized under the Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation Law of California. In the context of this general purpose, the purposes for which this corporation is formed are pleasure, recreation, and other nonprofitable purposes and to pursue, promote and protect the interests of motorcyclists; to develop better and more enthusiastic relations between the general public, the media and the operators and riders of motorcycles; to encourage discussion among members of matters pertaining to motorcycles; to sponsor and promote organized events; and in general to perform any acts therewith not forbidden by the laws of the State of California.
